THE ZODIAC // 2011
With the present day means of communication, over-simplified graphics have become a visual norm. The rich symbolic language of astrology and the zodiac signs has been one subject in which these graphics have taken over. The effects of the watered down imagery has played a role in belittling the integrity of its history.
In my research, I study the origins of the present day symbols, and hope to re-contextualize them to restore value and pay respect to the study of astrology. My work uses the beauty of ornamentation as a vehicle to seduce viewers into the subject and leave them with an aesthetic experience that mass produced imagery of the zodiac today cannot.
